Today was the annual Stewpot Soup’s On! event held this year at Union Station in Dallas and chaired by Tonya Meier with chef chair Brian Luscher of The Grape. The event benefit’s The Stewpot which offers basic resources and community support for the homeless and at-risk individuals in the Dallas area.

The Stewpot delivers dental services for up to 24 people each day, offers drug and alcohol counseling, hosts youth programs, provides voicemail services and many other essential services as well as attempting to break the cycle of poverty. The Stewpot Alliance and the Soups On! event is a major force in supporting programs that help homeless and at-risk families and individuals.

Today’s event also hosted keynote speaker Jeanette Walls, best selling author of The Glass Castle and journalist who herself grew up at-risk and often homeless and without food and basic comforts.

The luncheon was prepared by eight chefs invited by Luscher and included Bruno Davaillon, Kevin Garvin, Keith Hanks, Matt McCallister, Janice Provost, Abraham Salum and Randall Copeland. Each chef prepared enough soup to serve their section of tables and the main course was provided by Wolfgang Puck Catering.

The event was hosted by Emmy award-winning journalist Gary Cogill who for many years served as a local film critic for WFAA in Dallas. For those wanting to know, Cogill is betting on The Artist to win the Academy Award this year.
